My wonderful illustrator, Kim Sponaugle, has the amazingly artistic talent of expressing emotion on the faces of the animals featured in Poppy’s book.
For clarity, this is a children’s book geared toward the 3-8 year age group and not an autobiography of our travels with Poppy.
Although the story is inspired by Poppy’s 11,000+ miles of traveling in 2020 the focus is primarily on being different, having disabilities and learning inclusivity. It is a theme that is needed in our society and one that is very near and dear to me.
Since I work with children who have delays, disorders, disabilities in my speech therapy private practice, I see the struggles they endure in their personal life and in society. Despite their struggles they have the ability to live their lives in harmony with others and fulfill all their dreams.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.
